Introduction

Background Information and Research
Brains of mammals have many features in common. Since we are unable to enjoyment benevolent passs for our dissection, sheep brains are often dissected as an assist to better understand the mammalian brain structure. However, because sheep brains differ from human brains, comparisons of their structures may not be precise.

Objective
1. Identify the major structures of the sheep brain;
2. Locate the larger cranial nerves of the sheep brain;
3. describe several differences and similarities between the sheep brain and the human brain.

Hypothesis
If we dissect the sheep brain, therefore we will have a better understanding of similarities to a human brain.

Materials
* Sheep brain, probes, scalpel, gloves, water, dissection tray, check list, brain diagrams

Procedures
1. Obtain a carry on sheep brain and rinse it thoroughly in water to pull back as much preserving fluid as possible.
2. Examine the break through of the brain for the presence of meninges. If they are present finalize dura mater mater, arachnoid mater, and pia mater.




3. Remove any remaining dura mater by pulling it gently from the surface of the brain.
4. coif the brain with its ventral surface down in the dissecting tray and locate the following structures on the specimen:
a. Cerebral hemispheres
b. Convolutions
c. Sulci
d. Longitudinal fissure
e. anterior lobe
f. Parietal lobe
g. Temporal lobe
h. Occipital lobe
i. Cerebellum
j. Medulla oblongata
