Measuring Specific Heat for Metals
Objectives:
1. Hypothesize about the properties of the surface tested and/or the energy transferred.
2. Calculate the specific hot up of the metal using your mass and temperature data.
3. Evaluate the hypothesis and the part performed.
Hypothesis:
If the mass of the metal is greater, then the temperature change of the urine system will increase.
Safety:
Glasses must be worn, and unfounded clothing restrained for the Lab Exercise!
Materials:
250mL Beaker Test vacuum tube Calorimeter
Burner, Ring Stand, and Wire Gauze Thermometer Balance
Procedure:
1. Prepare an take into account data table.
2. Fill the 250mL beaker about half full. Place it on the stand and begin heating it to the boiling point ( hundred degrees Celsius).
3. quantity the mass of the zinc to be tested.
4. Place the test tube, with the zinc in it, in the irrigate and continue heating.
5. Fill the Calorimeter with the peeing to 45mL, measuring the amount of the water in the Calorimeter.
6. Record the temperature of the water in the Calorimeter and the temperature of the boiling water.
7. Quickly pour the metal into the Calorimeter.
8.
nurture the Calorimeter slowly with the thermometer. Record the peak temperature reached.
9. Carefully decant the water (see me) and put the metal on the paper towel to dry.
10. take up the procedure for a second metal.
